Sofas

This is how an artist herself describes the collection of prints called 'Kanapy' (Sofas) that she created in collaboration with Washpapa - the company that manufactures craft paper.
I have to admit that, after ordering the sheet of UV printed Washpapa, I was so looking forward to make a bag from it.
I chose print No.5 from the collection because I love the combination of sofas and dressing tables, which are very feminine pieces of furniture - and so are the bags very feminine accessories. And, if we think deeper, a bag serves very often like a very compact dressing table, as most of us carry in it a lot of cosmetics and other necessities. A bag is also an extension of our house, like this sofa from the description at the beginning, the bag gives us some sort of safety. No matter where we go, we always have that familiar object, full of personal bits and bobs, with us.
When I was planning the bag design, I wanted to go for something that wouldn't disturb the original print too much. The print itself is quite large, so I needed a 'bigger canvas'. I decided to choose one of my signature patterns for a rectangle bag with corners. That gave a lot of space to 'exhibit' this piece of art.
I also played about with the shape of the bag corners made of aged Washpapa Sahara. And, of course, I wouldn't be myself if I hadn't added metal bag feet to protect the bottom of the bag.
As a closure for the bag, I used a little silver lock set on the matching flap. And, to add some 'jewellery', I made a big tassel.
The handles are made of very thick cotton webbing tape covered with matching Washpapa Sahara and attached to the bag with Chicago studs.
The length of handles allows the bag to be carried on the shoulder, or as a handbag. The bag can also be glamorously carried on one's forearm ;)
As you can see, I didn't have to wait long to style my new linen dress with some warmer clothes. Well, this is summer in Scotland, one is happy when is not raining, but at least I can wear my beloved colourful tights :)
