Drawstring Canvas Backpack - Birket

These days you probably know it as a rope-tie or drawstring backpack. Those who are a bit older apparently called it a duffle (duffel) bag.

The name duffel bag comes from Duffel, a town in Belgium where the thick cloth used to make the bag originated. It was a large cylindrical bag very often used by soldiers or sailors. Nowadays there are a lot of variations and, as I mentioned before some people use this name to describe any drawstring bag, not only in a cylindrical shape.

Ok, so enough of the Wikipedia definitions.
Whatever your preference, this is the ideal no-nonsense bag to carry on your back, whether you are heading to the gym, running, cycling, or doing a bit of sightseeing on holiday.

The
strong base is in Aged Washpapa in Sahara, while the top is a geometric
print design called Birket on cotton canvas, with a combination of black, grey, beige and
yellow vertical and horizontal lines on a white background.
The materials used make the bag really lightweight but durable.

The rucksack is fully lined and contains small pockets inside to help you keep your mobile or documents handy.

Both - outer and inner - cotton fabrics come from Ikea. I like using their fabrics not only because of the amazing quality and designs but also because Ikea is a member of the Better Cotton Initiative. I mentioned about that in my previous posts, but it is worth mentioning again. 'The Better Cotton Initiative exists to make global cotton production
better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it
grows in and better for the sector’s future, by developing Better Cotton
as a sustainable mainstream commodity.'

So there you go! Not only stylish but also a sustainable and environmentally friendly bag. What more could you want?

You can grab it from our website or visit our stall during the Vegan Connection festival in Glasgow in August.
