Retrofuturism, Google, Wikipedia and Edwyn Collins
I was watching a lovely documentary film the other night about how Edwyn Collins has battled back from a brain haemorrhage to once again be one of Britain's best singer-songwriters. It was entitled "The Possibilities Are Endless" - his mantra as the Scotsman emerged from his coma - and it is mine when considering the potential of a new fabric.
And so, what next to make with these black houndstooth and flowery scuba fabrics from Remnant Kings? After the skirt and top combo, I thought I would try them together in a mini-dress.
Flowery fabrics have a certain retro feel about them, while the houndstooth has a futuristic edge. However, I hope you agree that they combine to great effect.
Indeed, I thought I was about to create a new genre, even a new word. That's until I did a Google search and found that Retrofuturism already is a thing and even has its own Wikipedia page!
Oh well, back to the drawing board as far as being a philosophical genius is concerned (somebody once said you have to have two original ideas for that anyway). I'll settle for chasing my goal of being a good designer/pattern cutter some day. Am I getting there? ;)
