Vegans in Tenerife
Holiday time and all the worries about eating out started again. We never leave without a list of veggie-friendly places printed from the Happy Cow website. The problem is that, despite being prepared, one might be very disappointed... This is what we have found in El Medano in Tenerife:
It looked like a very nice place and you could tell that the atmosphere inside had to be good too. All tables were set and looked like they were just waiting for customers. Sadly, the place was closed down a while ago. And here is my appeal. Please support veggie places wherever you are. If there is one veggie-friendly restaurant, go and buy something there. Support cruelty-free businesses. Don't go elsewhere and beg for pizza without cheese or roasted veggies. Leave it as an emergency thing. If we will not support initiatives like that one, we might find more and more closed-down places. Because it is not the first time when we have seen something like this. It happens everywhere and all restaurants that we visit were listed on the Happy Cow website.
This place was found by an accident while we were looking for K-Vegan in Los Cristianos. Nice
and modern looking SOPA cafe with veggie options - mainly soups and salads.
We didn't make it there after all because we found a vegan bistro with the most delicious wraps.
K-Vegan
This place is situated in a food hall at La Pepa shopping centre. In the evening, some of the meals weren't available so we made sure that next time we came earlier to grab especially a Spanish omelette. Basically, this is one of the best vegan places if you like meat alternatives. Seitan was just delicious and chorizo sandwich made a nice wee snack too. But we didn't forget about adding something healthy: quinoa salad with fresh tomatoes, cucumber and greens ;) It is a fast-food type of place with the big outdoor sitting area for all stalls. Waiting time is about 10 minutes as wraps are freshly made.

Other places we found were in Puerto de la Cruz. Unfortunately, due to it being Christmas Eve, they were closed and, while one place looked like it might just be having a siesta break, we didn't wait till evening as we had to head back home. All the places were listed as veggie with vegan options - it is always a mystery what meals they might have that are vegan.
All places are listen on Happy Cow, so I haven't added links to any websites etc. because all addresses can be easily found via that portal.
And the last place on Tenerife that we found was a burger place in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It was even later, so we knew that it would be closed anyway. We were hoping to go back there, but instead we chose K-Vegan again.
So we ended up cooking our Xmas Eve meal in the apartment. Result was quite pleasant, especially as we had some seitan that we brought with us from home. So, yes, an apartment with a kitchen and some starter food is essential. Of course, we could have gone to the Chinese or Indian restaurant or ordered pizza without cheese. But, as I said, we leave it as an emergency thing.

It is also worth adding that there are 'bio shops' in most cities/towns where you can buy seitan, tempeh, tofu, vegetable pate, etc. Plain tofu is also available in bigger supermarkets. Most supermarkets offer vegetable milk, soya yogurts and desserts, guacamole, so breakfasts were sorted too.
