Wedding dress alter-ations fit for a Rolls

I can't even remember how many ideas for a wedding dress I have had in my head. I am not even sure that this is the final one. However, a dress had to be made for a college project: "Design & Manufacture a Bridal or Eveningwear Garment". So I thought that it was a great opportunity to make a wedding dress. That would save me all the trouble later ;)

So here it is. After a few months of drawing sketches, draping, drafting patterns and sewing mock-ups, THE dress is finished and ready to be worn.

The fabric is a curtain fabric that I got at Remnant Kings. I like the way it holds all the drapes but because of the cotton content, it creases a little bit. The corset top is boned with plastic boning to support the shape.

I decorated the hem and the top edge with Czech beads. And, yes, I had to sew on every bead separately - they weren't bought on a string :D The front decoration is made of soutache, Swarovski crystals and glass beads. I actually really like it. It adds some sparkle to this quite modest dress.

You might wonder where I found such a fancy car. Well, it is on display at The Riverside Transport Museum in Glasgow. Thanks to their courtesy, we could use the premises to shoot some photos.

Working drawings were a part of the folio

I would like to add some details about the accessories used to shoot those photos. First of all - the shoes. I was cool about shoes leading up to the shoot as I thought that, having so many pairs already, I shouldn't have a problem choosing something appropriate. I was wrong.

I am the proud owner of white Melissa shoes, but they are decorated with cute cherries, so it wouldn't be a good match. So again you hear about Deichmann, yes. Non-leather, silver sparkly shoes for 20 quid without waiting for the delivery. I was more than happy.

Another thing that I would like to mention is a double string of pearls you can see on my neckline. You can look at it closer on the photos below.

They are artificial pearls made by the 'Lotus' company. They belonged to my boyfriend's mum and, looking at the date of the sale, you can tell that she got them as a Christmas present 57 years ago. I got them about a year ago from my boyfriend's dad after his wife passed away. He thought they would suit me. I think he was right.
